Criminal defense: Man charged with murder

| Jul 12, 2018 | Criminal Defense

A man in Albany is facing charges after another man was stabbed to death on July 5. New York authorities arrested the 21-year-old who is believed to have committed the murder. The man has been arraigned and is being represented by a criminal defense attorney moving forward into his trial. He has yet to enter a plea.

According to the limited information available, police say a 29-year-old man was stabbed when attempting to break up a fight in Albany. Witnesses say the man was trying to protect a woman who was being attacked when he was himself stabbed. It is unclear whether he died at the scene or later at a hospital.

The man accused of the stabbing was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. It is unclear what led the police to arrest him in connection with this tragedy, as the report did not provide details of the arrest process. He is now being held in a county jail without bail in advance of a trial date in Albany City Criminal Court.

The second-degree murder charge could land this individual in jail for years if — but only if — he is found guilty in court and beyond a reasonable doubt. However, New York prosecutors will have to prove conclusively that he was responsible for the stabbing. His criminal defense attorney will carefully review evidence before it is submitted to the court in order to preserve the man’s rights to a fair trial and to represent his interests at every stage of the proceedings.
