Criminal defense: Man faces attempted murder charge

A man accused of assaulting another man during an alleged road rage incident is facing serious charges, according to Brooklyn authorities. New York police say the 46-year-old Queens man has been charged with attempted murder, as well as several other charges, in connection with the incident. He is currently being held against $100,000 bail, and he will be represented by a criminal defense attorney at his preliminary hearing and throughout the trial process.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of July 29 in Greenpoint when two men apparently became involved in a minor traffic dispute. Video evidence shows the two men, the 46-year-old and a 24-year-old driver, exit their vehicles and begin arguing. The victim claims the older man attempted to assault him with a knife before reaching into his car to steal his keys. The alleged attacker then fled to his vehicle while the other man chased him in an attempt to retrieve his keys. The older man drove away, pinning and dragging the other man.

The victim sustained only minor injuries, and police later tracked down the older man through his out of state license plates. He was arrested and charged with a number of crimes, including assault, reckless endangerment, menacing, leaving the scene of an accident, robbery and attempted murder. If he is found guilty, he could face serious prison time.

However, New York prosecutors will have to prove the man’s involvement in the altercation. If they rely on video and witness evidence, the man’s criminal defense team will be given the opportunity to review the material before it is presented to the court. Through this exercise, they can work to build a defense for their client.
