A New York man who works for the Harlem Globetrotters was arrested on March 9 under suspicion of sex abuse, according to local sources. The man was taken into custody in Syracuse after he allegedly inappropriately touched a 14-year-old fan at a show. There is no word as to whether the man has retained criminal defense representation at this time.
According to the report, the Globetrotters, a popular traveling show best known for comedy and basketball artistry, were in Syracuse for a show at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena around 7 p.m. the night of March 9 when the alleged incident took place. The 34-year-old DJ, who goes by the name DJ FullFrame, is believed to have had an encounter with a fan around 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 10. Police say the man approached the girl and “touched the outside of her clothing in an inappropriate manner.”
The man was arraigned on the morning of March 10 and has been charged with sexual assault. As of the night of his arraignment, he remained in a local correctional facility. For the moment, no court date has been announced, and it is unclear whether he has since been released or if he remains in police custody.
Of course, a sexual assault charge should be taken seriously, but it is important to remember that a false charge, or one taken out of context, can have massive repercussions for the accused individual. In this case, the man could lose his position as part of the Globetrotters and face considerable difficulty in finding new employment, even if the charge is proven false. This is why he will be represented by a criminal defense attorney who will argue for his innocence in a New York criminal court. His attorney will use all available information to build a strong and compelling case in his defense.
