A man in Crown Heights is facing serious charges following a harrowing car and foot chase through the streets of the Brooklyn neighborhood on March 29. New York police apprehended the man after he was tackled by a good Samaritan while allegedly attempting to flee authorities. He was expected to be arraigned on April 6, where he will be represented by a criminal defense attorney.
According to the report, police in the Crown Heights area responded to reports of a man allegedly carrying a gun. Apparently the man had been driving a luxury vehicle which struck several cars before jumping a curb and entering the sidewalk area. The suspected individual reportedly exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away from the crash site.
However, an off-duty Coast Guard member reportedly saw the man drop a weapon before attempting to leave the scene of the accident. The Coast Guard member tackled him before several other civilians moved in to restrain him in advance of the police’s arrival. When officers arrived on the scene, the Coast Guard member confirmed he was operating in the capacity of a good Samaritan. Police found alcohol and marijuana in the man’s vehicle, and he reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .0801 percent, slightly above the legal limit.
The man now faces charges of reckless driving, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and several others. If he is found guilty, he could face jail time. However, it will be incumbent upon the New York prosecution to prove beyond reasonable doubt the man’s culpability in these alleged crimes. His criminal defense team will work to build a defense for him based on a thorough review of any and all evidence brought forward by prosecutors and police.
