Noted rapper Kodak Black was arrested with his entourage while attempting to re-enter the United States at the Canadian border, according to local news and entertainment sources. The 21-year-old performer, whose real name is Bill Kapri, is facing weapon and drug charges after his vehicle was searched at the border. He will appear in a New York court to face these charges, where he will be represented by a criminal defense attorney.
The details of the border stop were not outlined in this report, but it has been confirmed that Black was traveling with three other men, all of whom are originally from Florida, when they attempted to cross the border in Niagara Falls. For reasons unknown, agents searched Black's vehicle, reportedly finding marijuana and a 9mm pistol. All four men were arrested on the scene.
Black faces charges of unlawful possession of marijuana as well as second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Black was briefly interred in Niagara County Jail, but was released on $20,000 bail. The arrest led to Black missing a concert in Boston and having to cancel a second concert in Connecticut the following night.
More details are necessary to determine whether the border agents and New York State Police were correct in their handling of the situation with Mr. Black. His criminal defense team will no doubt wish to review any and all records pertaining to the search of his vehicle, as well as his subsequent arrest. Their job will be to ensure a fair trial for their client, and to build a strong case in his defense.
