Criminal defense: Man arrested for alleged vandalism

A number of nurses in Cortlandt left a shift the morning of April 10 to find the tires of their vehicles slashed, according to a recent report. Police responded to the call from New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, where some 22 vehicles were reportedly vandalized. A man has been taken into custody under suspicion of committing this crime. He has scheduled court appearances beginning in late May, though it is unclear whether he has retained criminal defense counsel.

According to the incident report, nurses leaving an overnight shift reportedly discovered the damage to their vehicles around 7 a.m., which is when they alerted police. Officers arrived and cordoned off the area with the help of local fire and emergency services. It is unclear why the individual they arrested, a 29-year-old local man, was suspected for this crime.

When the man was arrested, he allegedly had a small amount of the street drug PCP on his person, though police have not commented as to whether or not intoxication was a factor in this alleged crime. The man now faces several charges, including second-degree auto stripping, second-degree criminal mischief and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. All of these are considered felonies.

Felony charges could see the man facing jail time if he is found guilty of these crimes. However, the burden of proof rests with New York prosecutors who will have to prove his involvement in the destruction of property. His criminal defense attorney will carefully review any evidence brought forth by the prosecution in an effort to build a strong defense for him in criminal court.
