Two men accused of shooting and killing a father in his apartment before attempting to flee the scene in a taxi have been apprehended by local police. New York authorities in Manhattan arrested both men on the night of May 15. They both face multiple charges, including robbery and weapon and drug possession. As of this report, it is unclear whether either man has yet retained criminal defense representation.
According to the police report, it appears the two men, aged 29 and 25, may have been attempting to rob the victim of drugs. The victim, a 25-year-old father of two, was shot in the chest in his apartment after an alleged argument between the three men. His wife, who was in another room at the time, claims she heard the gunshot and witnessed the two men running from her home. Medical personnel rushed the man to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The two men were apprehended after police pulled over a taxi that was making an illegal U-turn. One of the two men allegedly had a handgun drawn in the back seat. Police arrested the men and searched the cab, allegedly finding a second gun as well as an unspecified amount and type of narcotics. The wife identified them as the men she claimed ran from her home, and the men were then remanded without bail. They were expected in Bronx Criminal Court on May 16.
Murder charges are obviously very serious and, if the men are found guilty, could result in jail time for one or both of them. This is why their criminal defense attorneys will each carefully review the facts of the case in order to build an effective defense for their trials. Each man will be represented individually in New York criminal court.
